Development Approval - Land and Environment Court of NSW - Birchgrove House
14 May 2024
Last week we received development approval from the Land and Environment Court of NSW for a new house in Birchgrove that had been refused by Council. The Council did not consider the sawtooth roof to be an appropriate roof form for the heritage conservation area and wanted a traditional hipped roof, despite the fact that the roof form brings natural light, winter sunlight and ventilation to every room on the upper level. As a former maritime and industrial suburb there are numerous extant sawtooth roofed warehouses and factories in the area, a number of which have been converted to residential use. We consider this to be a totally appropriate response for both heritage and environmental reasons and look forward to moving into the documentation stage in the coming weeks.
