Leuver Design Studio

Potts Point, NSW
2021

A 70 square metre office suite has been adapted to create the studio of a graphic design consultancy. The studio benefits from a northerly aspect and balcony with views onto street trees and glimpses of Sydney Harbour. The simple rectangular space had a small kitchen and bathroom either side of the entry, both of which have been retained. The major issue to address was the lack of storage and low ceiling height, which combined with the depth of the space limited natural light to the rear of the studio.

Changes involved removal of generic grey carpet and its replacement with fibre cement board flooring panels and the addition of two storage pods. These pods are extensions to the footprint of the bathroom and kitchen, either side of an enlarged entry lobby, off which they are accessed by way of full height pivot doors. The most significant aspect of the storage pods is their mirror cladding, visually doubling the sense of space, while reflecting the street trees and sky, which in turn has significantly brightened the rear of the studio. Brightly coloured artworks and pieces from the owner’s furniture collection further enliven the space with multiple reflections.
